Surgery clinics

We offer a range of clinics and services at the surgery. There are some tasks you can do, such as health reviews, using our online forms.

Blood pressure checks

If you have been advised by the surgery to submit your blood pressure readings on a regular basis please complete our online blood pressure form.

Blood tests

Make an appointment with the healthcare assistant or phlebotomist.

Cervical smears and women’s health

Eligible female patients will be invited for routine cervical smears. Women up to the age of 25-49 will be recalled every three years. Women over the age of 50 will be recalled every five years.

Child health clinics

Your child will be sent an appointment for immunisations by the child health department. The clinics are held on Thursdays from 10:30am to midday.

Chronic disease monitoring

You will be invited for annual checks, in your birthday month, if you have long term problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease or asthma.

If you have been advised by the surgery to submit an annual review of your asthma symptoms please complete our online asthma review form. If your symptoms are deteriorating or you are having any concerns please make an appointment with our nurse.

Contraceptive care

If you have been advised by the surgery to submit a contraceptive pill review please complete our online contraceptive review form.

Ear syringing

We advise the use of olive oil drops in the ears for 10 days prior to an appointment as this may avoid the need for syringing. There is more information on ear care available from reception.

Flu and pneumonia vaccinations

Flu appointment clinics are set up during the Autumn for all patients over 65, those at risk with chronic disease and for carers. We are also able to offer Pneumonia immunisation for patients over 65 years of age or with chronic disease.

Minor operations

The surgery is equipped to perform a range of minor surgical procedures.

Smoking cessation

For patient wanting to stop smoking, one to one support and advice can be offered on a regular basis by our nursing team. A range of therapies and services offer choice suited to individual needs.

Family planning

The doctors provide a full range of contraceptive and family planning advice. Routine checks can be carried out by the practice nurse.

Maternity care

Please make an appointment to see the doctor if you are planning to become, or think you may be pregnant. Your care is shared by the doctors and our community midwife who holds a clinic at the surgery on a Friday morning from 9am to 11am. The midwife also provides parent craft classes in conjunction with neighbouring practices.

Screening programmes

The surgery supports the national screening arrangements for the following:

  • Cervical smears – women up to the age of 25-49 will be recalled every three years. Women over the age of 50 will be recalled every five years up to the age of 64. Women who are 65 or older will be recalled if a recent test was abnormal.
  • Mammograms –  women between the ages of 50 – 64 years are routinely invited for breast screening every three years.
  • Aortic Aneurysm Screening – this is an ultrasound test for men, and those male at birth, from the age of 65. This checks for an abnormal widening of the main artery of the body, the aorta. If you are eligible you will be invited via the screening programme.
  • Diabetic eye screening – screening for diabetic patients over the age of 16 to check for damage at the back of the eye, a condition called Diabetic Retinopathy. This is performed every year, by invitation from the Diabetic Eye Screening Programme.

Travel vaccinations

We can offer the full range of immunisations as Rendcomb Surgery is an approved Yellow Fever Centre. Travel advice for all destinations can be given. However, eight weeks’ advance notice of your intention to travel is required to enable us to plan your immunisations. Most vaccinations will have to be paid for in advance by the patient.
